This Cookie & Tracking Policy explains how Hugin uses cookies and similar technologies — including browser local storage and session storage — on our website (gethugin.com) and in the Hugin application (app.gethugin.com). It supplements our Privacy Policy. We describe these technologies by category and purpose, so this policy stays accurate as specific tools change.

1. What These Technologies Are

"Cookies" are small files stored on your device by a website. "Local storage" and "session storage" are similar browser mechanisms that let a site store small identifiers and preferences in your browser. We refer to all of these as "tracking technologies." They can be set by us ("first-party") or by a third-party provider we use ("third-party"), and can last only for your visit ("session") or longer ("persistent").

We do not use tracking technologies for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

2. Our Website (gethugin.com)

Our marketing website does not load third-party advertising or analytics SDKs and does not set traditional advertising cookies. Instead, it uses a small set of first-party identifiers stored in your browser to understand site usage and attribute sign-ups, and (where enabled) to route enquiry and opt-in submissions to our marketing and scheduling tools. We measure overall site usage anonymously for all visitors using session-only identifiers that do not build a persistent profile. A persistent identifier that recognizes you across visits is set only if you accept analytics cookies.

IdentifierTypePurposeRetentionWhen set
`hugin_session_id`First-party session storageDistinguishes a single browsing session for anonymous, aggregate usage measurementCleared when the tab/session endsAll visitors (anonymous; legitimate interest)
`hugin_src`, `hugin_ref`First-party session storageRecords how you arrived (campaign/referrer) for attributionCleared when the tab/session endsAll visitors (anonymous; legitimate interest)
`hugin_visitor_id`First-party local storageA pseudonymous identifier to recognize a returning browser across sessions and measure repeat usagePersistent until you clear itOnly after you accept analytics cookies (consent)
`hugin_cookie_consent`First-party local storageRemembers your cookie choice so we do not ask againPersistent until you clear itAlways (strictly necessary)

When you submit a form on our website (such as a resource opt-in or a demo/booking request), the information you provide is routed to our customer-engagement and scheduling tools (see the Subprocessors page). Our demo/booking page may embed a third-party scheduling widget that can set its own cookies when it loads.

3. The Hugin Application (app.gethugin.com)

The application uses tracking technologies that are necessary to provide a secure, signed-in product, plus product analytics:

CategoryExamplesPurpose
Strictly necessaryAuthentication and session cookies/tokens set by our authentication providerKeep you signed in, maintain your session, and secure your account. The product does not work without these.
SecurityBot/abuse-protection (CAPTCHA) challenge tokensProtect sign-in, sign-up, and password reset from automated abuse
Product analyticsPseudonymous product-analytics identifiers and sanitized usage eventsUnderstand how the product is used so we can improve it. Message/query content, prompts, emails, secrets, and tokens are stripped before any event reaches analytics.

4. Third Parties That May Set Cookies

Some providers we use may set their own cookies or identifiers when their features load, including our authentication provider (sign-in/session), our security/CAPTCHA provider, our product-analytics provider, and the scheduling/booking widget on our demo page. These are listed, with their purpose and location, on our Subprocessors page, and each is governed by its own privacy policy.

5. Your Choices

  • Browser controls. You can clear or block cookies, local storage, and session storage through your browser settings, and you can clear our first-party identifiers at any time. Blocking strictly necessary technologies will prevent the application from working.
  • Analytics opt-out. Where required by law, we will provide a consent or opt-out mechanism for non-essential analytics; you can also use browser-level controls and "Do Not Track"/"Global Privacy Control" signals, which we honor where legally required.
  • Marketing emails. If you receive marketing email from us, you can unsubscribe using the link in the message.

6. Consent

We rely on legitimate interests for anonymous, session-only analytics that do not create a persistent profile; these run for all visitors and do not identify you. For the persistent `hugin_visitor_id` that recognizes you across visits, we rely on your consent — it is set only if you accept analytics cookies, and not if you reject or ignore the banner. Strictly necessary and security technologies are used on the basis of providing the service you request and keeping it secure. Where applicable law requires consent for other non-essential tracking technologies, we obtain it before setting them.

7. Changes

We may update this policy as our tools change. The updated version is posted with a new "Last updated" date.
